Drive Down Petrol Prices - The Real "Knowledge"

It includes resources such as the Pump Price Database to help Taxi Drivers keep their day to day running costs, such as petrol or diesel to a minimum.

Report Prices

The site relies on give and take. Anyone can view the pump prices, but if no-one contributes pump-price reports, the site will ultimately fail. It’s free to participate so give it a try!

Go on, look in your wallet, you probably have a petrol receipt you can report.

Find a Cab

If you want to find a cab company near you, try the Find a Cab feature. Any cab company having contributed data within the last month is listed here, free.

If you have had problems that you feel may be caused by the recent petrol contamination problems, visit this Tesco page for more information.

Cutting Your Motoring Costs

  • Keep to the speed limit. Drivers who stick to 70mph on motorways save up to 4p a mile in small cars compared to those cruising past at 80-85mph.
  • A well-maintained engine will be more efficient and less polluting, so make sure your car is serviced regularly.
  • By driving smoothly and consistently you can reduce your fuel consumption by more than 10% in urban areas. This will also save wear and tear on brakes, tyres and suspension too. Fierce braking and a heavy right foot will only cost you money.
  • Check your tyre pressures often. Tyres which are under-inflated could cost you 8% more.
  • Use your gears properly - you could cut fuel consumption by up to 25%.
  • Take off that roof rack. A fully-loaded roof rack can add 30% to fuel consumption.
  • Turn off the air conditioning system and the heated rear window when they are not needed and you will use 10% less.
  • Do not coast in neutral - it does not save you fuel. When you slow down stay in gear as modern cars automatically shut off fuel to the engine if you are not accelerating, but they will use fuel when in neutral.
  • Close your windows. Driving with them open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency, far more so than putting the air conditioning on when motorway driving.
  • Shop around - fuel prices can vary enormously between filling stations just a few minutes apart. Check out www.TaxiGas.co.uk before you set out!

Why sign up?

With your free membership:

  • You can help by reporting petrol prices. This keeps the database current and useful to you and your colleagues. You may become one of our top reporters.
  • If you're a cabbie who has reported a petrol price in the last month, your taxi company will get listed, free, on the Google Earth Map and in a new search page just for taxi companies: Find a Cab.
  • There will be an optional, occasional newsletter to inform you of new features, but rest assured, your data will never be sold to other organisations.

GPS Data

If you're lucky enough to have a GPS for your car or cab (for example Garmin, Tom Tom Go, Magellan etc.), I want to hear from you. If your GPS can upload data I want to provide you with data in that format so you can make use of it on the move. Please eMail me with more information on your device and it's file formats if you want to help make this happen.
